Eligibility to participate in the Iowa City Ryder Cup
Must be a resident of Johnson County, or have a membership/play package, or play regularly in a golf league in Johnson County. (This requirement may be waived by committee approval).
Must be 18 years old and not a high school student.
Selection of the Iowa City Ryder Cup Captains and Assistant Captain
The ICGA Board will vote to approve the upcoming 2 years Captains. Preference/priority will be given to candidates who have previously/currently serve on the ICGA Board of Directors or have a minimum of 2 years experience as an Iowa City Ryder Cup/Senior Challenge team member.
The Captain must pick an Assistant Captain who would serve as an alternate in case of an unexpected injury or illness. It is expected by the ICGA that this Assistant Captain be capable of competing at a similar level to that of a starting team member.
The Assistant Captain will be the next in line to be Captain for the following 2 years teams.
Iowa City Ryder Cup Team is selected in the following manner
The Iowa City Men’s Amateur champion.
The next 4 finishers in the Iowa City Men’s Amateur.
The remaining 7 qualifying* players are Captains picks from golfers who have participated in
an ICGA event within the previous 2 calendar years.
* Must not be a member of a college team.
CR wins 2020 CR/IC Ryder Cup 16.5 - 7.5.
The 2019 Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Ryder Cup series was played August 24th and 25th at Brown Deer Golf Club in Coralville.
Iowa City rallied to win Singles 7.5 to 4.5 and win the cup. Cedar Rapids had won the previous 13 years.
The series has been played annually since 1999. The competition features a Ryder Cup format of Better Ball (Fourball), Alternate Shot (Foursomes), and Singles. The complete history of the team results is listed below.
